Where to fish in and around Shanklin Isle of Wight

 

Ventnor Beach

This popular tourist location is a wonderful place to wet a line particularly during the summer months. The mixed ground at Ventnor means a multitude of species can be caught using very many different approaches. To avoid the crowds it is advised to fish during the evening o early morning. This is a great beach fishing location for all anglers of abilities with access being fairly easy due to the beaches close proximity to the local car parks.

Summer Species: Bass, mackerel, rays, dogfish, garfish, wrasse, pollack and bream

Winter Species: Flounder, plaice, whiting, pouting and codling

Bait: Peeler crab, ragworm, sandeel, lugworm, squid, mackerel and lures

Tactics: The mixed ground at Ventnor allows for many different species caught using different tactics. For the bass lures and spinners fished in low light conditions on a rising tide over the rocks is a preferred method. Mackerel and garfish can be caught using float fished mackerel strips or on feathers. For most other species beach casting gear fished with worm and fish baits will work. During the winter it is a case of using smaller hooks and baits to scratch around for the sport that is there.

Getting there: Ventnor is situated to the South West of Shanklin. Ventnor is one of the islands larger towns and is well signposted with ample pay and display car parking.
