The pier and surrounding area can become very popular during the summer months and anglers seem to favour fishing it during the winter months when good bags of Cod are possible. To fish the pier there is a charge that currently is around £6 per day, or you can purchase a season ticket for around £75.
Summer Species: Flounder, bass, smoothhound, bream, plaice, sole, dogfish, mackerel, garfish and eels
Winter Species: Codling, whiting, pouting, flounder and rockling
Bait: Lugworm, ragworm, squid, mackerel, sandeel, peeler crab, cuttlefish and razorfish
Tactics: In the summer months flatties and bass make up the bulk of the sport here. Fish with small hooks baited with either lug or rag for the flatties fished a short distance from the pier. The bass can be caught very close to the structure with large worm or fish baits being your best option. In the winter there is a good run of codling around November and again in March. Fish at range with cocktail baits such as peeler and squid on a Pennell style rig for the best results. Do remember to take a drop net when fishing the pier to avoid agonising fish loses.
