Minnis Bay (Kent)

Minnis Bay in Kent is a great shore fishing location and can be fished all year round for a variety of species. The venue has many different spots to try during different states of the tides. Most people who fish the bay target the Rays that show in good number through the spring and autumn months. In the winter there is always the possibility of a cod here and decent sized fish are caught here each year. This is a really shore fantastic venue for anglers of all abilities and should be explored by anyone on the area.

Summer Species: Rays, Bass, Flounders, Smoothhounds, eels and flounders.

Winter Species:  Rays, Codling, Whiting

Bait: Peeler crab, Lugworm, Ragworm and frozen baits

Tactics: If fishing for the rays then a good beach fishing setup is required and the ability to cast a lead a decent distance is a massive advantage. The popular baits for the rays seem to be sandeel, mackerel, bluey and squid fished on large 4/0 sized hooks on a pulley style Pennell rig. Fishing hard on the bottom in the evenings and nights with worm baits will pick up flatties and bass in the bay. During the winter months fish with large black lug or crab baits for the chance of codling. Again fish these on a rig similar to one you would use for rays, mentioned above, for the best results.
