Sea fishing locations in and around the town of Sheerness, Kent

Garrison Point Sheerness

The area of Sheerness is surrounded by great shore fishing locations. This island off of the Kent coast has long been popular amongst anglers and holiday makers alike. Garrison Point is a fantastic location to fish from and will produce fish throughout the year with the preferred time being during the summer months. Bass are the main target from the point and good numbers are caught each year, with the chance of a big fish always on the cards. Winter is quieter here, but you can still expect action from the flatties and the chance of a codling.

Summer Species: Bass, sole, wrasse, mackerel, garfish, pouting and eels

Winter Species: Cod, rockling, flounder, pouting and whiting

Bait: Peeler crabs, sandeel, ragworm, mackerel, squid, lures, spinners and lugworms

Tactics: In the summer my preferred way of fishing the area would be with a spinning rod and lures or spinner baits for the bass an, mackerel and garfish. If targeting the bass make sure you check the water has got good visibility and then fish during the flooding tide in low light conditions for the best chance of a fish. Peeler crab fished on a flowing trace is also a very good option for the bass and for the flounders in the area. During the winter match style tactics are generally employed and local clubs commonly hold matches along this stretch. The majority of fish caught in the winter are small, but the chance of a cod is a realistic expectation.

Getting there: Easily accessed from the island with good amounts of parking close to the venue.
