Where to fish in and around South West Cornwall
Carn Du, Lamorna Bay
Carn Du is a popular fishing spot located to the far South West of Cornwall, not far from Lands’ End. This rocky outcrop is a perfect fishing location for anglers of all abilities and will produce all sorts of species with the summer fishing being the more productive time to visit the area. Be sure to take a good quantity of tackle as the area has very snaggy ground and float fishing is often advised.
Summer Species: Mackerel, garfish, scad, pollack, bass, wrasse, conger eel and bull huss
Winter Species: chance of occasional codling and ray
Bait: Ragworms, mackerel, sand eels and try lures
Tactics: The Lamorna Bay produces great fishing all year round. The summer months in the area are best suited to float fishing with ragworms or mackerel strips for the wrasse and garfish and thus avoiding tackle loss. Lures and feathers will also catch pollack and mackerel over the kelp covered ground. For the cleaner ground fish towards the bay at reasonable distance with pulley or clipped flapper style rigs. You have the chance of bass, flatties and rays trying this method.
Getting there: Use the B3315 signposted Boleigh, then look for signposts for Lamorna cove, parking available in large car park. Cross footbridge and follow coastal footpath after the cottages.
